Three Times Dope

bit of a megapost right about now. in no particular order here's some real news:

1.) Regular 440r blog contributors Mark E. Moon and No.1 have remixes featured on our favorite spazzy little west coast party rapper, HAWNAY TROOF's website. You can visit his exclusive remix page here or download Snarky Moon's jawn here or macno.1's here. Originally, it was supposed to be a contest but Chris (hawnay's real name, pictured above) got too many awesome entries so he's just saying "you're all winners", but really we know that a little place called Somerville has held it's own in a battle against the rest of the world of riddim arteests.

2.) Speaking of wee dudes, our favorite local show-organizer, label owner, and the only man who has mutton chops bigger and been rockin them longer than TD, Mr. Daniel Jean Shea has a birthday on Saturday, so let's give him some props for that. And also, let's give him some props for finally emailing me an mp3 version of the battle rap song i helped produce for him. Check it here: MC Eggplont/Death Sentence Panda Squad - "Deep Fried Hate". For those who might not be familiar with the whole Allston Battle Rap Scene, here's a quick recap of what went down last year.

3.) And lastly but not leastly, in case you haven't heard, or read, Big Digits have put together a BIG SHOW tonight at Great Scott, featuring the reunited-and-it-feels-so-good Crystal Understanding, and the about-to-tour-with-The-Gossip-and-show-the-world-how-we-do-electropera UV Protection, to celebrate the release their new cd SMOKE MACHINES IN LAZERVISION, which is coming out on the aforementioned Dan Shea's record label, BODIES OF WATER ARTS AND CRAFTS. As a special treat for 440r blog readers, here's a (for now) exclusive track off the new album:

P-unit vs. P-unit vs. P-unit

so it appears that those ham n' eggers over at the Smirnoff promotions department can't come up with an original idea to save their worthless lives. They put together a new video of preppy boys "talkin' all gangsta" about their lives in the ever popular format of fake rap (haha! that joke never gets old!). This faux group goes by "Prep Unit", a.k.a. "P-Unit" which, [a-hem] sounds ever so similar to something... where have i heard this before......? oh yeah, like two years ago when the Paper Rad dudes put out their first(?) dvd enscribed "P-Unit Mixtape 2005"(available for free download here).

Fire up the copyright attorneys' bmw's engines boys, and let's settle this the american way. I can only hope PAPER RAD shreds these smirnoff dolts, but they're probably too busy doing art installations in Bermuda, posting post modern blogspots, doing videos for 4 Non Blondes, and just gernally being ubercreative and making the coolest freaking art we wish we thought of years before but didn't.

Oh yeah, and there's yet another, similar in style, rival "P-unit". This one is the Pesci Unit -- as in Joe Pesci. Yup, it appears everyone these days can rap.

Peep the vidz.

bring back the jamzs

a few years ago i saw this band: FREE BLOOD
and they were great: stripped down to a bass player who operated the world's seemingly simplest drum machine, and a couple vocalists who shared a synthesizer that they barely touched. and it was fvnky as hell. anyway they seem to be around again, and mac was nice enough to hook me up with this mp3. now i pass it along to you.
(this is my DJ jam so i wasn't gonna give it away but that's not nice)

The studly dj duo known in philly party circles as Crimp Yr Hair have assembled a talented cast to perform along with them at a new venue just getting going in the Illadelph called Sal's on 12th this Sunday.

Only $5 to get in, crazy drink specials all night (I'm talking like $1 pabst and $2 shots), and of course, killer music. check the line-up:
