UV Protection record release Saturday/Don't Sleep on the Openers

Not sure if they are going to post about it here (one day we will get Karen to post) and since it always easier for someone else to write the hyperbole for you let me say this:
THE UV PROTECTION CD RELEASE PARTY IS GOING TO BE OFF THE CHAIN/HOOK/RACK/PLANET.

You see, not only will UV be releasing their long in the coming 2nd cd “clean. modern. comfortable.” (although spies have spotted the cd already for sale at Twisted Village and Honeyspot), not only is the event sponsored by Redbones (free BBQ) and Harpoon (free beerz), not only are there rumors of moving projection screens, but it also represents the return of a couple my favorite out of town/almost never plays bands that I’ve seen in a while: Longknives and Awesome Brothers.

Very few times am I left dropjawed by a band to the point that I cannot come up with coherent sentences to describe them, this happens every (and by every, I mean both and I’m pretty sure that they have only played three times) time I see Longknives. Instead of racking my brain for the correct syntax to put something somewhat educated together, I will just throw out some words/terms that I associate with Longknives: three piece, lights, smoke, loud, keyboards, gasmask, heavy, Tyler from Ho-Ag. So check out the music from the web and the track below (thanks Mac) and be prepared.

On a less heavy but certainly just as audio/visually apropos note, are Providence’s Awesome Brothers. I had the luck of playing the last night of their month long Flavor Cave residency in Providence and got to see how much this band has developed over the last year or so (the last time they were in town). Their videos, already a strong presence in their live show, have gotten better and still display a deadpan humor/playfulness with social conventions that is too often lacking in most performances. The music has also picked up a tightness in technicality without losing energy and spontaneity and gaining confidence. They just put out their first cd “300%” (co-produced by Jim Drain) that you would do well to match with your UV cd purchase at the show. Check out their theme song below.
