Official Summer Launch Party!

OK, technically summer starts on Wednesday, June 21, but let's be real.

Summer officially starts Thursday night at the Lilypad in Inman Square, Cambridge.

The deal:

Two 440 bands are playing with two kick-arse out of town bands at an all-ages location. I'm also pretty sure you can BYOdiscreetB but don't quote us on that. This show will start the dance dance revolution. Whose side are you on, boyz?

Here's the who and the what (in the order that they're playing):

The Yah Mos Def, http://www.yahmosdef.com/ : Hailing from Philadelphia, ripping mics over punk rock samples, B Awesome and Distro (aka Ricky Coldhands of Crimp Yr Hair fame) were last seen ripping apart a completely wack artshow and spraying sweat on the Mark Ryden ripoffs. Loved by many, feared by those that know better lest they become victims of their next stinging couplet, they are a sight to see/hear/smell/taste.

Squids, http://www.squidssquidssquids.com : Often spoken of but far too rarely seen, Squids are kind of the only functioning rock band at Compound 440r. There are three of them, they are women, and they have guitars so the usual comparisons spring up (Slits, Raincoats, Bratmobile) but Squids sound is unique. Vocals are shouts, instruments are traded, minds are kinda blown.

Hawnay Troof, http://www.hawnaytroof.com/ : Vice Cooler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vice_Cooler) is kind of an underground legend. At the ripe age of 21 he has gone more places and made more awesome music than many do in their whole life. He has a new double album out and he is touring behind it. He rarely gets up here but he always gets down. We played with him in NYC on Friday and even the most jaded of bad haircuts couldn't help but be moved.

And of course, The Big Dig Its. You wrecked the party but they're the party wreckers.

Mark E. Moon=spinning between acts. And in celebration he presents a Hawnay Troof remix:
