Watch some M.I.A.+Timbaland Studio Sessions
Thanks to a chinatown express bus ride from new york to boston last night, and the luck of sitting next to the venerable Dan Hirsch, I found out about some MIA and Timbaland studio sessions floating around on YouTube. Next opportunity i had, i searched, found, and watched them. they are posted below:
In case you can't see 'em, here's the recap:
- Timbaland's studio is crowded! Beyond the tons of equipment, there's like 800 people just chillin up in there. Doesn't seem like the best working environment. I mean, wtf?! Maya can barely walk around without bumping into people.
- Timba refer's to justin timberlake as "the white black boy" as well as calling him "the best there is" and "JT one take"
- hanging in studio with timbaland, awesome slamminest beats aside, is as boring as any recording studio
- M.I.A. is still extremely crushworthy

this is awesome, though i wish there was more actual music-making footage.
one woman surrounded by a bunch of dudes. doesn't timbaland or maya have one other woman in their posse?
i like when timbaland starts telling MIA that she needs to go through "the school of hard knocks" and she tells him that she lived through a war.
also check out minute 8 or so. she starts doing a seated version of the patented sonya understanding dance!
